How long have you been in London, Cheryl?
Apart from university, I’ve lived in London all my life! I’ve tried out East, South-West and Central but Pimlico, where I live now, is my favourite. It’s great to be able to walk everywhere I love and it helps that my local cafe, The Regency, feels like an East End caff that’s been transported to Pimlico. I grew up in Wanstead so that makes it feel like home!
As a life-long Londoner, what’s your top insider tip?
Explore by foot. The tube’s easy but you see so much more above ground. Sometimes I walk into Chinatown from Pimlico past the Houses of Parliament and I always see something new.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
Right now, I’m obsessed with capoeira. It’s a Brazilian martial art that’s an intense workout, but also like a dance. It’s the first time since I was 14 that I can do cartwheels! I also love to cook, especially Chinese food.
It’s a great way to remember where I’ve been (and loved) so I know where to take my friends.
Finally, can you share any of your favourite London places with us?
The Science Museum - I really like their once a month late-night openings. There’s always comedy, talks and activities and, best of all, it’s free!
Wong Kei - This restaurant in Chinatown is the perfect pit stop. It’s tasty, fast and really cheap.
Regency Cafe - My local cafe is the best for breakfast or brunch. It does a great version of eggs Benedict with bubble and squeak, eggs and Hollandaise sauce. Yum!
Loon Fung - This Chinese, Japanese and Korean store always has what I can’t find in my local supermarket, whether that’s enormous bags of rice or specialist teas. It’s packed but they have everything you can think of!
