Info Post
Editor’s Note: Now and then we'll spotlight one of our amazing Google Places reviewers. Both so you guys can start to get to know one another and so we can pull together and share our favorite local places. This week we introduce you to Mary Shouvlin of Brooklyn, New York.

To find out more about our community activities in New York, follow us on Twitter or Facebook.

Mary enjoys reading, cooking, brunch and yoga. She lived in New York for a few years and recently returned after briefly living in Oregon. “I had missed many aspects of living in such a great city, and many of my dear friends live here as well. I missed the diversity and richness of the cultures and passionate energy of New York City. And, of course, the pizza.” We’re glad to have her back!

What would your superpower be?
Teleporting, hands down. I have a very persistent travel bug.

That would certainly be a fun power to have. Care to share an ultimate insider tip for New York?
Be on the hunt for things to explore, events taking place, and opportunities to discover new places and connect with new people. There is so much going on in this city all of the time, be sure to take advantage of it.

It’s true, there’s always plenty to discover! What’s your favorite Google event you’ve been to and why?
The bowling and pizza event at the Gutter in Brooklyn was a blast. You can't go wrong with an open bar, good people and bowling! I have loved each event as a great opportunity to meet new people who similarly value this city with open eyes for discovery and good times. I am consistently impressed with the events that Google puts on!

What’s your ultimate guilty pleasure?
Anything that combines chocolate and peanut butter.

Two great tastes that taste great together! Speaking of taste, care to share some local favorites with us?

Nuyorican Poets Cafe: I love the history and culture of this place. If you have not been to the Nuyorican for a poetry slam, you must add it to your list. The talent that can be found here will blow you away. It is most definitely crowded on Fridays, but I always bring visiting friends here and they always speak of it as a highlight of their trip to the city.

Brooklyn Brewery: Great beers and great environment, perfect for a Friday evening with a good group of friends. Solid deal, too: 6 quality beers for $20 — can't beat it.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters: Stumptown is the best. Having lived in Oregon for the past year (where it became a staple) I am thrilled to be able to get my fix in New York. Great company and values — direct trade coffee that truly supports the farmers who grow the beans. Great environment as well!

Whitney Museum of Art: My favorite museum in the city. The exhibits are always uniquely amazing and there is always a great variety of all kinds of artistic expression. Love that they support lesser-well known artists, too.
