Info Post
Sharing recommendations on Google Places isn’t only about telling your friends the great new restaurants you’re discovering. It’s about sharing all the amazing places you find, from restaurants and cafés to parks and beaches; there are Place pages for a whole range of categories!

So for Earth Day today, and in the spirit of appreciating the beautiful environment around us, we thought we’d share with you some of the many outdoor places you can rate, review and share with friends around the world on Google.

One great way to appreciate the outdoors is by visiting one of the many beautiful national parks around the world. Just go to Google Maps and type “national parks,” and you’ll be able to browse a ton of options, including Yosemite National Park in the United States, Dartmoor National Park in the United Kingdom, and Timanfaya in Spain. My Places friend Gregor recommends I check out Death Valley National Park in California:

Maybe you don’t live close enough to a national park, and instead, as a city dweller, you just want to see green period. You can rate and review the great recreational parks you frequent every day with your friends or your pup, including Central Park in New York, Millenium Park in Chicago or Hyde Park in London. I hit up google.com/hotpot to see what nearby San Francisco parks my Places friends recommend:

I’m a big fan of the beach. So for Earth Day, if you’re on a coast, why not head to the waves and rate places such as Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina and Nikki Beach in France. According to the Google Places app for iPhone, my friend Lior recommends I check out Baker Beach in San Francisco:

Other great places to experience the outdoors are nature preserves. We can point you toward plenty of those on Google Maps, including Parc Omega in Canada, the Royal Albatross Colony in New Zealand and the Denver Botanic Gardens in Colorado. When you go, remember to capture the beauty with your camera so you can upload them to the Place page when you get home:
