Info Post
Editor’s Note: Now and then we'll spotlight one of our amazing Google Places reviewers. Both so you guys can start to get to know one another and so we can pull together and share our favorite local places. This week we introduce you to Joe van Waardenburg of Portland, Oregon.

To find out more about our community activities in Portland, visit us at google.com/portland or follow us on Twitter at @GooglePDX.

Some background: Born at OHSU, Joe’s a Portland native who’s lived here or in the surrounding areas ever since. He loves the city’s amazing summers and even appreciates the other seasons (extra time to start new hobbies!). He likes riding bikes, reading nerdy fantasy books and playing sports like kickball. You may bump into him in his hood in NW enjoying some cheesy, saucy Tex-Mex at Acapulco’s Gold, or at one of our Google Places events.

What's your favorite thing about sharing reviews on Places?

I really enjoy sharing reviews on Places because I have a passion for helping people enjoy Portland. I hope that some of my reviews can help people find places where they can eat, drink and play that will create great memories of my city.

If you could see any celebrity's reviews on Places, who would you choose and why?

Christopher Walken's reviews and only if they were actual recordings of him reviewing them.

Do you have any secret talents?

My talent as a blender master is becoming less and less a secret, but when I was younger I worked for a little-known smoothie shop named Jamba Juice which melded my craft behind a blender. Watch out!

Share an ultimate insider tip for your city.

There is an amazing park located underneath the Fremont Bridge in NW Portland. It's probably the best place in the city to watch the sun go down on the water.

Tell us about some of your Best Evers.

Escape From New York Pizza: I've been going to this place since I was a young boy. The best part is that many of the people that work there are the same that I saw working as a kid. It speaks about how Phil runs the place and how he treats his staff, which is why they still put out the best slice of pizza in Portland.

Clarklewis Restaurant: You get what you pay for AND IT DOES NOT COME CHEAP. I've had the best meal i've ever eaten in my life at this restaurant. It is the meal that all past and future meals are put up against. They do a great job with local and in-season produce and proteins. A real treat.

Toro Bravo: I've eaten here on numerous occasions and have always been impressed. I recommend everything on the menu but especially the oxtail croquettes if they have them. AMAZING! A warning: There can be a wait, but there is a great bar called the Secret Society located up the stairs to the right of the restaurant, which is an excellent place to wait to be seated.

Frances May: An amazing boutique. Pam has a great eye for cool clothing, and I always find something in here that I want to buy, which can be troublesome a lot of times.
