It can be hard to find a good slice of East coast pizza out West, but many will agree that Sizzle Pie Pizza — where we recently threw a pizza party — has stepped up to the challenge. Known for its inviting atmosphere, selection of locally made sauces and wide array of beers, Sizzle Pie has proven to be a true neighborhood favorite. Our Places-style pizza party was a chance for Portlanders to see the restaurant’s new patio space and taste new recipes from the its summer menu.

We started off with some vegan pizzas, like the “Let Us Play Your Party” with mushrooms, black olives, spinach, white onions and “Not-a-Ricotta” cheese. We also had the vegetarian “Lexicon Devil,” with spicy Aardvark blended red sauce, fresh jalepeño, crushed garlic and chopped green onions. Both were tasty new additions for the Sizzle Pie summer menu.

Attendees competed to win some fabulous Places schwag, like water bottles and headbands, but it was pizza that had the locals like raving. Google user Velveetahead especially loved “the crispy crust and how all the toppings meld into deliciousness.”

Portland local Jeremy Rios also raved about Sizzle pie, saying, “Delicious crust on these greasy pizzas! Wide selection of beers and they have Mexican coke! Breadsticks were nomtastic and their Aardvark dipping sauce has quite a bite.”

One of the favorite pizzas that Places users got to enjoy off the new summer menu was called “It’s Always Sunny in Portland,” which was topped with shaved beef steak, green peppers, white onions and Italian provolone — an homage to Philly cheesesteaks, of course.
