A music enthusiast who dabbles in music production and dances whenever possible, Andy also plays kickball for Ball & Oates, snowboards, plays tennis and loves trying out new bars and restaurants. He moved to Portland four years ago from Missoula, Montana, for a job, and now resides in Northwest Portland. Keep your eyes peeled for him at the karaoke bar, where you may catch him singing Tears for Fears's "Head Over Heels" or Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell."
What's your favorite thing about sharing reviews on Places?
Places is a great tool to use when you’d like to share what you enjoy about your city with others visiting or with people just trying to explore their city and expand their comfort zone. I use it as a platform to give others a balanced view of the places you've been. It's easy to knock a place for slow service, but without a solid review, you can't know if the place was busy, understaffed or if the reviewer just had to get home to make it back for the cable guy. A reviewing guilty pleasure of mine is to read all the negative reviews and try to figure out why the person hated the place.
If you could see any celebrity's reviews on Places, who would you choose and why?
Prince. Prince is my spirit animal, and you know if he thinks a place is cool, it probably has great music and is the coolest place for 200 miles.
What's your ultimate guilty pleasure?
Dancing wildly out of control, specifically when I'm in a great mood and really pumping some disco/dance music while getting ready to go out for an evening. My neighbor has seen me dance on my coffee table in my underwear more times than she needs to. On a related note, IKEA makes a suprrisingly quality coffee table.
What's your favorite Google event you've been to and why?
PDX Distillery Tour. Free food, local spirits and ice cream. I'm not sure why I have to explain this one.
Tell us about some of your Best Evers.
Tasty N Sons: Anything and everything you will try is beyond expectation. French toast tastes like cake, and the polenta tastes like creamy dreams with a powerful ragu. Amazing food stuffs and their equally impressive cocktails are what pushes this place to the next level.
Pok Pok: This place can do no wrong.
Nob Hill Bar & Grill: My favorite neighborhood dive. Be it 2 in the p.m. or 2 in the a.m., it's always good for about six pints and a burger. And the people who work there are solid folks.
Besaw’s: A favorite standby. Nothing compares to their chicken and waffles for dinner and Manhattans for brunch.
