Info Post
Editor’s Note: Now and then we'll spotlight one of our amazing Google Places reviewers. Both so you guys can start to get to know one another and so we can pull together and share our favorite local places. Today we introduce you to Rob Marlbrough from San Diego, CA.

To find out more about our community activities in San Diego, visit us at google.com/sandiego or follow us on Twitter at @GoogleSanDiego.

Rob has lived in San Diego since infancy, and while he loves to travel, he’s never been compelled to live far from “America’s Finest City.” Many San Diegans know him as Downtown Rob, and he’s become a sort of “downtown ambassador” by connecting people with San Diego places and events through social media.

How did you become San Diego’s downtown ambassador?
I love meeting new people, learning about what they do, where they're from, and what motivates them to be who they are. It's inspiring. It's one of the reasons I love Google+, Twitter, Facebook and other online communities, because it accelerates getting to know people. But nothing replaces face-to-face time. I love watching movies, eating at new restaurants, trying new cocktails and spending quality time with my favorite people.

You’ve recently started using Google Places more to share your recommendations. Tell us some of the things you like about it.
Reviewing on Places is both comprehensive yet easy. Its user interface allows for a rating, plus a nice, concise review. Other review sites are more finicky, rewarding long, meandering reviews. They don't allow you to complete reviews via the mobile app, or they have a confusing and complicated user interface.

You are out and about so often, share with us an “insider” tip.
Get to know your waiter/waitress by name immediately because you’ll get much better service by calling out their name instead of trying to flag them down some other way. If you're a repeat customer and know their name, they'll strive to remember yours too, making future service even better. Go out on off-nights when it's less crowded to meet the interesting people, and you'll have a much better time, rather than spending it being treated like herded cattle. Of course, if you know the right people, you're VIP on any night. While name-dropping isn't usually needed, sometimes it is — just tell them Downtown Rob sent you.

Tell us one person whose reviews you’d love to read.
I would love to see Gordon Ramsay's reviews on Places. I think they'd be totally honest, with an interesting viewpoint from someone known for both his perfection and temper.

Now we have to know, what are your Best Evers?

Craft & Commerce: The artisan cocktails, great food, super friendly service and cool vibe make this a great spot just a block from my condo. Plus, they have a dog-friendly patio. It’s always crowded, so get there early.

Altitude Sky Lounge: The view, DJs, drinks, crowd, and vibe are always mixed to perfection. Never snobby, always friendly; I've had many, many good nights here.

Syrah Wine Parlor: Brilliant decor, with every inch thought out. The vibe is great, good DJs late at night and the wine tastings are superb. Try the meat and cheese platters too.

Fish Market Restaurant: The sushi bar is a constant dinner destination, and the cioppino is amazing.
