Info Post
Editor’s Note: Google Places user James shared with us a great idea earlier this week: Since it’s National Bike Month, let’s talk about our favorite bike-related spots and share them with each other on Google! Excellent idea, James. So we asked him to write up a quick post to inspire others to rate and review their favorites.

Many of us are passionate about our two wheels, and so are our families, friends, and co-workers. Google Places lets us share all those great recommendations with each other, so why not invite all those folks to share all their bike-related finds with you, including:

The scenic parks you cruise around in (my little girl Sara and I love checking out Big Creek Parkway):

Use google.com/hotpot to rate and review the parks you take your bike to on the weekends.

The bicycle shops you grab your gear from (I got my bike from Dick’s Sporting Goods):

Connect with friends on Places so that you can share your favorite bicycle shops and always have great recommendations whenever you search on Google.

And the cool places where you stop for a break along the way (Sara and I like to stop at East Coast Custard during our rides):

Search for places on Google Maps to see what your Places friends recommend.

Beyond rating, reviewing and recommending our favorites to friends on Google Places, we can also help make Google Maps even more awesome: If you don’t see all the great spots where you ride on the map, add them to the map using Map Maker. Sara and I also love tracking our rides using My Tracks, an app for Android, and then saving them on a My Map, so we can look them up later or share them with friends.

I love that all of this can be done with just a few clicks on my phone. Places helps me to discover and share my favorite bike-related places and experiences, My Tracks shows me the stats of my bike ride (routes, times), and My Maps helps me document and record our all our adventures on the map.
