Info Post
For me, Memorial Day weekend has always included heading to my hometown of Mount Gretna, PA, and swimming at the Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach with friends and family. But this year will be my first Memorial Day in the Bay Area. So I’ve fired up Google Places and Latitude to find out what new spots I can discover and check-in to throughout the next three days.

But first, I need to update my Google Maps for mobile, since a nice seamless way for me to both check-in and review all the places I go was just released earlier this week. Go to any Place page and note the “Check in here” and “Rate and review” buttons at the top:

Now we’re all set. One of my favorite things to do over a relaxing holiday weekend is to bury my head in a good book. I just need to find a book shop. I go to Google.com and search “bookstore san francisco,” and the first result is City Lights Books, recommended to me by my Places friend Jen:

Looks like a popular spot! I’ll star the City Lights Books page so it saves in a handy list I can pull up when I need directions and when I need to quickly check-in to let my friends know where I am:

Since I won’t be at the lake picnicking this weekend, I’ll need another outdoor spot to read my new book. A quick search on Google Maps for “parks san francisco” pulls up Dolores Park, which, according to several reviews by Google Places users and 11 Best Ever medals, sounds like the perfect spot:

And last but not least on my holiday activity list is prepping for a little grilling soiree on my back patio. The “Explore Nearby” button on my Places app for Android pulls up the Ferry Building, a one-stop-shop for all my party needs: fresh food and drinks, flowers, and most importantly, dessert:

What places are you checking in to and reviewing this weekend?
