What do you do for Google Places?
I designed and developed the city sites for Google Portland, Austin, Madison and San Diego. What makes a city great are the places within it! Keeping that in mind, these sites are meant to highlight places and businesses that really reflect the flavor and character of those cities.
My work involves a lot of photoshopping, javascripting and cursing the unique quirks that different web browsers have.
We’re expanding to more cities soon, so keep an eye out for featured places in a city near you!
On your Places app, what are some of your saved categories?
As a dedicated foodie, I’m always in search of great brunch places. I love breakfast food, and brunch always gives you more time to really engage with the people you’re eating with. I’m also on the hunt for places that serve great vegetarian food — fortunately, veggie options abound in the Bay Area!
What’s one city you’ve been to that you absolutely loved, and what did you do there?
On a recent trip with my family, we visited Banff, in Alberta, Canada. The small town is nestled in a valley, and surrounded by the Rockies. In early June, the mountains were still coated with snow! The picturesque town was beautiful to walk through, and the different restaurants I tried had some great food. If you’ve got some time, take the Banff Gondola up to the top of Sulphur Mountain for an amazing panoramic view.
Name a place you have on your “Saved” list and why.
La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. I’ve always wanted to visit Barcelona, savor the Spanish cuisine, and check out its historic architecture; what better landmark to start the expedition than the iconic Sagrada Familia?
If you were an emoji (our little yellow mascot), what would you look like?
I’m the epitome of a tech nerd, so I’m never without my Android-powered phone and my laptop — looking up places on Google, of course!
Tell us three of your Best Evers and why.
Dosa in San Francisco: If you ever want to learn more about South Indian food, this is the place to do it. Authentic and yummy, it’s bound to have you coming back for more. If you think you can handle the spice, try my favorite dish: The Habanero-Mango Masala Dosa.
Soi 4 in Berkeley: In Thailand, Sois are streets or alleyways. Soi 4 serves Thai “street food,” but it’s pretty fancy (and delicious!). The food here was even better than some of the dishes I had in Thailand!
The Los Gatos Cafe in Los Gatos: The herb potatoes served here for brunch can’t be beat! This is a great little restaurant for brunch located right at the heart of Downtown Los Gatos. Try coupling a hike in Vasona Park before or after you eat here.
